Acuitas: (noun) insight, perception, sharpness.

Welcome, Kyle Stephenson

Acuitas continues to grow (in size and geographic region), and we are thrilled to announce that Dr. Kyle Stephenson has joined the team as Director, Preclinical. While Kyle is based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), he will regularly be at our Vancouver lab and workspace – which gives him the title of “longest commute” (at least, for now!).

Kyle brings more than 15 years of experience in immunology, oncolytic viruses, cell therapies, and drug development of immuno-oncology therapeutics to his newly created role at Acuitas. Most recently, Kyle was Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs & Nonclinical Development at Turnstone Biologics. There, Kyle led the development and execution of the non-clinical/IND-enabling development strategy for all portfolio products, including oncolytic viruses and cell therapy products.

Kyle says he decided to join Acuitas because of the exciting and innovative work being done in our labs. He explains: “Acuitas is the global leader in developing lipid nanoparticle technology – which was a real draw for me. There is such potential in nucleic acid therapeutics using the Acuitas LNP delivery technology. This team has extensive experience in working with partners to develop medicines that address historically challenging diseases and viruses. Currently, the team are in different phases of development with partners for therapeutics for HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and even cancer.” He adds: “If you want to be involved in best-in-class innovation and discovery, Acuitas is the place to be.”

“The preclinical phase of research and development occurs right before a partner can move into human trials,” said Sean Semple, Vice President, Preclinical Research “With Kyle on board, we have expanded our expertise and knowledge base allowing us to further support and accelerate the progress of our partners. He is an asset to Acuitas and has quickly become a key member of the team and a contributor to our positive company culture.” He added: “Of course, it also helps that he has a solid sense of humour. At Acuitas, laughter is always a part of our day.”

Kyle also explains that the positive culture at Acuitas was another draw for him. “The entire team is dedicated to maintaining the great culture at Acuitas. It’s something special,” says Kyle. “This is a smart, engaged and connected group of people who genuinely care about one another and advancing lipid nanoparticle technology for the betterment of human health. The entire team puts in the effort to create an environment of innovation, collaboration and kindness. My first reason for working here was for the scientific innovation – but I have to admit, the amazing company culture is a close second. This is a great place to work!”
